17025:2005 Overview – How to Comply
Who Should Attend
Laboratory managers, supervisors, quality assurance personnel, analysts and others interested in
learning about the ISO/IEC 17025 Standard and its application.
Course Overview
This course will include a review of key elements of ISO/IEC 17025, discussions about common
misconceptions of the Standard, challenging compliance elements for laboratories, as well as
commonly cited deficiencies during accreditation assessments. In addition, emphasis will be placed
on how to perform effective root cause analysis, method validation challenges for new labs and for
labs wanting to expand their scope of accreditation, and understanding measurement uncertainty
and its application. A question and answer session is also provided to address specific challenges
laboratories face.
Presenter
Dawn Mettler is the president of Rockbridge Laboratory Services. She is a quality systems consultant
with over twenty years experience in performing microbiological and chemical analytical processes,
and over twenty-five years experience in veterinary diagnostics and processes. She is a quality
systems assessor contracted with the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and a
technical consultant for biological, chemical, environmental and biodefense testing laboratories. In
addition, she provides customized training programs in microbiological and chemical analysis, as well
as customized quality system training, including internal auditing, corrective action/root cause
investigation, method validation and measurement uncertainty. Ms. Mettler holds a Bachelor of
Science degree in Agriculture from the Ohio State University and has performed Masters work in
advanced food microbiology, mycotoxins and food law.
